Speech...!
For me, Mr. Sitaram Yechury was a friend who operated in the political system. When people look at politics from the outside, it's not easy to see the dynamics that take place inside. It's an unforgiving, harsh, and uncomfortable place that often brings out the worst in people. It’s rare to see politics bring out the best in someone. I saw Mr. Yechury from the first day I started my political journey, and I observed him quite carefully. What I found was someone who was flexible and who listened.
He was, in a sense, a bridge between the Congress party and other parties in the INDIA alliance. There are people who are visible, and there are those who are the glue—often invisible and hidden, but crucial in holding the structure together. I would say Mr. Yechury was such a figure, holding the architecture together.
He was flexible, he listened, and he didn’t possess the common traits that many politicians have—anger, aggression, and arrogance.
He was a person you could trust, and you were sure that he wasn’t compromised, especially in today’s environment where there are pressures and it’s easy to give in.
Whatever he did, he always acted in the best interest of our country. Every single time, his starting point was India.
