In 1950, Turkish soldier Süleyman Dilbirligi went to Korea to participate in the Korean War. There, he found a small Korean girl, alone amid the war and devastation, after she had lost her family.
He took her with him and cared for her as if she were his own daughter, naming her "Ayla," and she called him "Dad."
But when his service ended, he was forced to return to Turkey and couldn't take Ayla with him, so he left her at an orphanage in the hope that they would meet again one day.
