Hamas Negotiator Describes Quiet U.S. Shift and Meetings with Trump Officials

Hamas lead negotiator Dr. Khalil al-Hayya says President Trump and his envoys have accepted that “the war is over,” after Israel “failed to achieve its goals despite every opportunity and full U.S. backing.” He confirmed direct meetings with Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, (and months earlier with Adam Boehler), saying Hamas told them, “We seek stability — we demand only our stolen rights.”

Al-Hayya said, “They were surprised that we are not what they had been told. They were surprised to meet a group of university professors, engineers, and doctors. That’s who we are: academics, professionals, and patriots.”

He added, “We told them we share the view that President Trump is, in this moment, the one capable of ending the war, and we called on him to restrain the Israeli occupation.”

Witkoff (@SEPeaceMissions), he said, “offered condolences for my son. He even mentioned his own son, Steve, who passed away long ago, and we exchanged some human words about the pain of losing a child.

Loss and grief are human feelings shared by everyone — Muslim, Jew, or otherwise,” said Dr. Al-Hayya who lost his son when Israel bombed the Palestinian negotiating delegation in Qatar in September.
