The Hindenburg Research report raises serious allegations regarding the role of the market regulator and the shareholding of Madhabi Buch and her husband. It alleges that Buch invested in funds connected to offshore entities linked to Vinod Adani, Gautam Adani's brother. The report outlines a series of events involving Agora Consulting, a firm allegedly owned by Madhabi Buch, which received business in India. It also highlights her transition from owning Agora to becoming the SEBI chief, and how ownership was transferred to her husband. Additionally, it notes that her husband is a senior advisor at Blackstone; she is involved in promoting REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts).
The report points out significant conflicts of interest involving Boch's offshore investments, her consulting firm Agora, and Blackstone. These conflicts are so glaring that they cannot be ignored. The central question now is whether Madhabi Buch will continue as SEBI Chief. The report undermines the credibility of the regulator and severely damages the integrity of India’s Prime Minister.
Various questions have been raised: Did she invest in the IP Plus 1 Fund in 2015, a fund connected to Vinod Adani? When did she acquire a stake in it, and when did she transfer her stake to her husband?
When she was a Whole-Time Director at SEBI, did she disclose the fund she was holding and Agora Consulting?
Which companies continue to give business to Agora Consulting, and which entities are still providing business now? Has she disclosed to SEBI that her husband is part of Blackstone, a company that is a major player in REITs?
Has she had direct meetings with Adani, Blackstone, or companies associated with them? Before telling the Supreme Court that they "drew a blank," did SEBI inform the Court that the funds under SEBI's probe allegedly involved the SEBI chief herself and her husband as investors? Was this disclosed to the Supreme Court?
Questions have also been raised for the government: Could there have been collusion between the SEBI Chief and Gautam Adani’s group without the knowledge of the Prime Minister? As the report questions, what is the Prime Minister now going to say about the role of the SEBI Chief?
Can this government possibly probe the Adani mega scandal? Did Gautam Adani play a crucial role in the appointment of SEBI Chief Madhabi Buch
Now that the Indian stock market regulator has lost all credibility, who will be responsible for the erosion of capital if the market falls tomorrow? Who will protect small investors, and why should Madhabi Buch, Gautam Adani, and Narendra Modi not be held accountable if market capital erosion happens?
